Info Session About Teaching Certification Program to be Held
(Bradenton, Fla., Jan. 11, 2006) - Manatee Community College (MCC) will host a free information session about its new teaching certification preparation program for noneducation majors with at least a bachelor's degree at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 14, MCC Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail.
Applications and more information about MCC's alternative program for teacher certification are available at www.scf.edu/TeacherEd; by calling (941) 752-5264 or (941) 752-5410; or e-mailing SocialSciences@mccfl.edu.
MCC was one of the first colleges to develop an alternative certification program (ACP) when the programs were authorized by the Florida Legislature in an attempt to address the state's critical teacher shortage in a manner that assures quality teachers. The first cohort was offered in September 2005 and a second began in January 2006, both at MCC Lakewood Ranch. A new cohort will begin in May. If student demand exists, the college will offer classes at MCC Bradenton and MCC Venice as well.
Evening and weekend scheduling of classes allows working professionals to participate. After finishing all courses in the program and passing required state and college exams, participants will receive certificates of completion that make them eligible to apply for the FDOE teaching certificate. The cost of MCC's ACP is approximately $2,000.
