MCC Winter Graduation Exercises to be Held Dec. 16
(Bradenton, Fla., Dec. 14, 2005) - Manatee Community College (MCC) Winter 2005 commencement exercises will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16, in Neel Performing Arts Center. Approximately 181, out of a total of 684 graduating students, will participate in the ceremony.
MCC President Dr. Sarah Pappas will offer opening remarks and confer degrees. The guest speaker is Michael Miller, founder and president of Waterford Companies, Venice. Previously the president of a large publicly traded land development company, Punta Gorda Isles Inc., he has more than 38 years of experience in the real estate industry. Miller has served on boards that include The Foundation for MCC Inc., YMCA, Venice-Nokomis Rotary Club, Venice Chamber of Commerce, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Special Olympics and Sarasota Home Builders Association. The student speaker is summa cum laude graduating sophomore Aimee Lyn Randol, whose 19-year-old son, Ian, also is taking classes at MCC Venice. Randol, 39, has two other children. She plans to go to the University of South Florida to earn a bachelor's degree in special education.
Other program participants are Rip duPont III, chair, MCC District Board of Trustees; Dr. John Rosen, vice president, academic affairs; Stephanie Cook and Joni Pirnot, professors; Lorraine Livingston, professor and mace bearer; Dr. R. Warren Apple, organist; Paul Gaerlan, president, MCC Venice Student Government Association (SGA); Leana Cudzilo, president, Bradenton SGA; Rev. Don Nicholson, chaplain, Campus Ministries; and Jamie Diane Proctor, music student.
