MCC Math Professors Attend National Conference

(Bradenton, Fla., Dec. 2, 2005) - Manatee Community College (MCC) mathematics administrators and faculty members Dr. Michael Mears, Dr. Dennis Runde, Dr. Lori Holdren, Dr. Paul Nolting and Mary Beth Headlee recently attended the annual conference of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) in San Diego, Calif.

The conference featured a selection of more than 200 workshops and presentations to improve mathematics education in two-year colleges. The MCC professors were among more than 1,000 mathematics educators from the United States and Canada who attended the 31st annual conference. Runde, chair of the MCC mathematics department, co-presented a session on teaching problem-solving in a distance learning course.

Founded in 1974, AMATYC is the only organization exclusively devoted to providing a national forum for the improvement of the instruction of mathematics in the first two years of college. AMATYC has approximately 2,800 individual members and more than 100 institutional members.
