MCC Venice Hosts Arts and Letters Day

(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 21, 2005) - Singer, acoustic guitarist and songwriter Lorna Bracewell and published poet Bill Lavender will be featured performers at a free Arts and Letters Day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, at Manatee Community College (MCC) Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail.

Bracewell's performance begins at 1 p.m. outside the Student Union. The reading by Lavender begins at 11 a.m. in the Selby Conference Room, Professional Development Center, building number 800. An open microphone for musicians, other performers, poets and prose writers, and fine arts exhibits are other attractions.

Bracewell, who has three CDs to her credit, has performed in more than 600 professional shows in a variety of venues throughout Tampa Bay and as far away as Prague, Czech Republic. Critics praise her brilliant songwriting, hard-hitting acoustic guitar, distinctive raspy alto and fun-loving stage presence.

Lavender's books of poetry include Guest Chain, Look the Universe is Dreaming and While Sleeping. He is director of the Low Residency Creative Writing Program at the University of New Orleans.
