Two Artists Exhibit Pastels & Ceramics at MCC Venice

(Venice, Fla., Aug. 1, 2005) - An exhibit of works by pastel artist Ruth Höök Colby and ceramist Pat Kelly will continue through Sept. 13 in the Manatee Community College (MCC) Venice Fine Art Gallery, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail.

Colby's paintings have been featured in national and international juried exhibitions throughout the United States and in private collections in the United States and Europe. She was one of 10 finalists in a Pastel Artist International magazine landscape competition. Colby is the cover artist and illustrator for the book, Conversations with Mary. In June 2005, she received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Bradford High School, Kenosha, Wis.

Kelly produced pottery for craft, specialty shops and department stores, including Tiffany's, in upstate New York for many years. Her pottery, characterized by the clean lines and functionality found in Japanese and Shaker works, has appeared in House and Garden, House Beautiful and Country Living magazines. She teaches at Venice and Englewood art centers.

The exhibit is located in the library foyer. Regular gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. For more information, call (941) 408-1476.
