MCC Showcase Events Tell It All

(Bradenton, Fla., July 25, 2005) - With most Fall term 2005 classes starting Monday, Aug. 22, students and prospective students of all ages and interests are invited to learn more about Manatee Community College's (MCC) programs and services-and how easy it is to sign up for them-at an upcoming MCC Showcase.

MCC Showcase events will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 2 and 3, at the Student Services Center at MCC Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West, and at MCC Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail.

The public is invited and reservations are not required for the conveniently scheduled Showcases that will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at both campuses each day.

"It's a prime time for students, particularly those who are interested in college but haven't yet decided on a course of study, to get the assistance they need for an early and successful start," said Dr. Donald Bowman, MCC vice president of student development and enrollment services.

Informational displays and staff will offer the inside scoop on MCC academic departments, health care and other career-oriented programs, student advisement and financial aid. Noncredit options to explore include Corporate and Community Development personal enrichment and professional development classes; a free general education (GED) test preparation and counseling program; and Traffic Safety Institute programs. Information on the college's new Alternative Certification Program, an innovative alternative teacher-education pathway, also will be available.

MCC offers an associate in arts (A.A.) degree and some associate in science (A.S.) degrees for students who intend to transfer to university programs, and more than 20 associate in applied science (A.A.S.) degrees that prepare students to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation.

Campus directions and maps are available on the MCC Web site, www.scf.edu. For more information, call (941) 752-5005 or (941) 408-1300, ext. 65005.
