MCC Spring Graduation Exercises to be Held May 13
(Bradenton, Fla., April 26, 2005) - Manatee Community College (MCC) Spring 2005 graduation exercises will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, May 13, at the Manatee Convention and Civic Center, Palmetto. Approximately 241, out of a total of 533 graduating students, will participate in the ceremony.
MCC President Dr. Sarah Pappas will offer opening remarks and confer degrees. The guest speaker is Diane McFarlin, publisher of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune newspaper, the largest newspaper in the New York Times Regional Newspaper Group. A fourth-generation Floridian, she has served as managing and executive editor of the newspaper and director of broadcast for the 24-hour cable news channel SNN-6. She is a past president of the American Society of Newspaper Editors and the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors. The student speaker is graduating sophomore Matthew Fournier, a 20-year-old honors student who served as a Student Ambassador and tutor to fellow students. He will pursue a degree in microbiology at the University of Florida and then a degree in dentistry.
Other program participants are Rip duPont III, chair, District Board of Trustees; Dr. John Rosen, vice president, academic affairs; Stephanie Cook, assistant professor, computing and engineering technology; Joni Pirnot, instructor, mathematics; Robert Donovan, professor and mace bearer; Carol Hawkinson, organist; MCC Bradenton Student Government Association (SGA) president Michael Monaghan; SGA Venice president Christopher Kuwik; Rev. Don Nicholson, chaplain, Campus Ministries; and music students Cole Dodds, Elise Moore, Kevin Rose and Megan Wintersteen.
