MCC Wins Marketing/Advertising Awards at State Convention

(Bradenton, Fla., Dec. 17, 2004) -- Manatee Community College (MCC) won four marketing/advertising awards presented by the Florida Association of Community Colleges' (FACC) Institutional Advancement Commission at the association's 55th Annual convention held in Tampa Nov. 16 through 19.

Three of the winning entries were designed to support retention and outreach initiatives to students in career programs. A coveted Trendsetter award was for "Professionalism Has Its Rewards," a flash movie developed for online viewing. The movie can be viewed at Other awards were for a multi-faceted project that won in the best direct mail category and an award for "Opciones," a Spanish version of a four-color ad series. The projects were prepared by the college's public affairs and marketing staff with the help of local companies BGD Associates, Dickinson Studios and RAZAR Interactive. An article published in West Coast Woman, "MCC Chosen to Participate in National Teacher Preparation Program," won in the press release/story pitch category.

MCC, along with fellow community colleges, also received FACC's first humanitarian award for hurricane-related activities and services. MCC President Dr. Sarah Pappas was named the "Unsung Hero" of the College's FACC chapter for her support of MCC's chapter activities. The chapter's president, Mary DiTaranto, was recognized with a certificate for her support and hard work.
