MCC Introduces New Film Course
(Bradenton, Fla., Nov. 24, 2004) - Manatee Community College (MCC) will introduce a for-credit Race, Gender and Representation in Film course in the upcoming Spring term 2005 at MCC Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West. The term begins Thursday, Jan. 6, and ends May 6.
The interdisciplinary course will be team-taught by Dr. Michael Buonanno, language and literature, and Del Jacobs, multimedia/film program. It consists of lectures, film showings and breakout discussion sessions. Films will be shown in Neel Performing Arts Center. Selected films feature Native American, African-American, religious, gay and lesbian images. A highlight of the course will be an appearance by author Peter Bondanella, who will serve as a curator of a course-related Italian film festival March 14 and 15. Bondanella has authored books about Italian filmmakers and subjects that include Hollywood Italians and Italian Cinema: From Neorealism to the Present
Four separate course sections, each limited to 10 students, meet 1 to 3:50 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays. Students may take the full three-credit-hour course; a one-credit-hour course that consists of lectures and screenings; or audit the course in either format.
