SCF Seeking Submissions for “Art of the Wedding Costume: Ritual and Romance” Exhibit

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Fine Art Gallery and Theatre Program are seeking submissions for an upcoming art exhibit, “Art of the Wedding Costume: Ritual and Romance,” which will be on display in the Fine Art Gallery Sept. 19-Dec. 3.

A retrospective look at wedding costumes through the decades, “Art of the Wedding Costume” will include a display of men and women’s traditional, nontraditional and cultural wedding attire from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.

Those who are interested in submitting distinctive and iconic-style wedding apparel and unique accessories such as veils, fans, hats, gloves, shoes and other accoutrements for the exhibit may complete the submission form.

Please send high-resolution digital photos of the items to the fineartgallery@scf.edu or mail a printed photo(s) to:

Participants also must submit their contact information, including a mailing address, phone number and email address, and details such as the date of the wedding, who was wearing the gown or accessories, and the approximate value of each item. The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 30.

Participants will be notified by June 15 if their submissions have been selected. They will be required to deliver wedding items to the SCF Fine Art Gallery by Aug. 20 and pick up the garments by Dec. 5. Complete submissions, including garments, apparel and accoutrements, will be insured by SCF.

WHAT
“WHAT IS HOME?” PHILIPPINE TYPHOON ART FUNDRAISER AND SALE

This art fundraiser will feature small, multi-media artistic creations that explore the theme “WHAT IS HOME?” and sold as mementos at the event to benefit the Philippine typhoon disaster relief effort.

WHY
SCF invites staff, students and community members to donate their artistic creations to benefit the Philippine disaster relief effort. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Philippines Habitat for Humanity “Re-Build Philippines (Super Typhoon Haiyan)”.

Participating in the fundraiser are Jamie Tracy, SCF assistant professor, art, design, humanities; Joe Loccisano, SCF Fine Art Gallery manager; Jean Blackburn, an international artist living in Sarasota; and Jeffrey Hansen, an SCF alum. Students from the SCF Collegiate School, SCF Museum Club and Temple Beth Sholom School Sarasota also will participate.
