When State College of Florida Collegiate School (SCFCS) opens in fall 2010, students at the nation's first collegiate middle school on a college campus will be pioneers in a futuristic setting.

The Manatee County School Board's formal approval Jan. 25 of SCF's charter school application paves the way for a revolutionary approach to instilling a "going to college" mindset in students starting with sixth grade.

Interested parents with children entering the sixth or seventh grade in Manatee County schools this fall are encouraged to attend information sessions.

Parents will be notified regarding their applications after the information sessions have been completed.
