Digital Photography and Cameras

This course offers twelve hours of instruction with three sessions of four hours each spread over a three week period. This will allow you to practice skills on your own and then review the results with the instructor and fellow students in the next session. The first session will focus on taking the picture. Composition principles, techniques for taking informal portraits as well as close up nature images will be discussed. You will be given assignments to practice the skills covered. There will be opportunities for participants to make suggestions for other possible subject matter.

The second session will include discussion and review of participants' images, practicing techniques covered the previous week. In addition you will learn how to load images on the computer and how to organize their files. Options will also been presented for backing up the photos. Issues related to photographing landscape, family pictures, sunset images and travel photography will be explored. Basic editing in Photoshop Elements will be introduced. Students will be able to work on their own photos and class files. Assignments will be made for the following week’s shooting.

The third session will continue with the same pattern of review and editing with emphasis on final printing and sharing photos through email or social media sites.  (Due to the subject matter of this specialized class, it is limited to 6 participants.)  Requirements:  Experience using a computer, keyboard and mouse.  Bring your digital camera to class fully charged, with its removable storage media, and  the camera's user manual.  If you do not have your user manual, you may be able to find a copy by searching the Internet using your camera's name and model number.
